The Beginning of the End | Devlog #1
Introduction:
The world has been devastated by a comet impact that turned most humans into zombies. The few remaining survivors must navigate through a large open world, scavenging for resources and building a new civilization. This is the premise of the challenging post-apocalyptic multiplayer game that we are currently working on for our university assignment.
Features:
The game features a large open world for exploration and scavenging. Players can collect resources by chopping trees, mining rocks and scavenging for other critical entities and can use these resources to craft items, structures and upgrades. The game has a linear yet engaging story that uncovers new areas, enemies, and resources. Players can choose to play cooperatively or competitively with other players, forming alliances or engaging in conflicts. The social component of the game includes regular limited-time events, seasonal content, and weekly challenges. The ultimate objective of making the world habitable again provides a clear sense of purpose to the players.
Development:
This is a group project, with two game programmers and two game designers collaborating on the task of designing and developing the multiplayer game. The game is being developed using the Unity game engine and Photon Fusion for the multiplayer feature. Firebase is being used for authentication and the real-time database. The user authentication using Firebase is already implemented, and an onboarding level is currently in development to teach new players how to play the game. The lobby level is included where all the players can join together and interact. A resource-gathering system is in place where the players can chop trees to collect wood, and an under-development crafting system allows users to use the collected resources to craft in-game items.
Future Updates:
As the development of the game continues, we plan to add more features to enhance the player experience. Some of the upcoming features include an improved crafting system, more resources to gather, and a basic combat system. We also plan to add more story elements, enemies, and resources to uncover in the game. As a part of our final prototype’s submission, we are planning to add at least two story missions which would be co-op in nature.

The Aftermath - Wasteland is a challenging multiplayer game that offers players an immersive experience in a post-apocalyptic world. With its engaging story, crafting system, and social component, the game provides a rich and rewarding experience for players. We are excited to continue development on the game and hope to incorporate as many features as possible within the submission timeframe.
